Planning to extend the Armadale Line approximately 8 kilometres south to Byford is well underway, with key tenders now released ahead of construction starting in 2021. The $291 million dollar project will create thousands of jobs, as well as provide the growing population of the Serpentine-Jarrahdale area with reliable public transport infrastructure to connect them to places of work, entertainment and recreation.
Byford is Perth’s fastest growing suburb, with the Serpentine-Jarrahdale population tripling since 2011 to 27,000 people, and a further 100,000 are expected to move to the area by 2050. These current and future population statistics suggest that Byford and the wider Serpentine-Jarrahdale community will greatly benefit from the rail extension, as it will provide them with an efficient public transport solution.
The METRONET project team is continuing to engage with the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale, the City of Armadale and the local community to discuss the options available for the project.
